Do not be deceived; God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. Galatians 6:9
I am not a gambling man. I don’t place bets. I’m not fond of casinos. I don’t buy lottery tickets. I am not one for betting hard-earned money on and hoping for the best. I would much rather bet on the work that I have done, and know that I will get out a return on what I put in. This is wise and sage advice, and it works. I know that it works because I learned it the hard way on a tenth-grade health quiz.
Health is supposed to be one of those gimmie classes in high school. It is required, but nobody really took it that seriously including the teachers. That is unless you happen to have the new teacher in school that thinks health is a real class. I, unfortunately, had that teacher. She had the nerve to give quizzes. So I bet that a health class quiz could only be so hard and decided not to study for it and roll the dice. I was feeling lucky and figured that I could guess my way through the quiz. I guessed a total of 60 points. I was horrified, but I learned the lesson, you can’t trick your way into a result. Picking “c” for every answer will statistically get you a passing grade, but you really only get out what you put in.
Friends, too often, we want God to be out lottery ticket to a better life. That is not how it works. God will bless you, God will multiply what you have, but God is not going to give you what you have not put in. You have to put in faith. You have to put in love. You have to put in hope. If you put in all the things that God has blessed you with, he will bless you in return. So do the work, unless you’re feeling lucky.
