The Daily Dose with Dr. Daryl L. Williams

A Word every day to get you on your way!

Here is the Daily Dose for Monday, October 5, 2020.

You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds, Therefore, if anyone is in Christ he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold the new has come. Ephesians 4:22-23

Starting Over

I have always had a special place in my heart for Tiger Woods. We are about the same age, and Tiger stormed onto the golfing scene when I was taking up the game of golf. Watching him play, then going to the driving range gave me a real appreciation for how good you have to be to be a top-level golfer. Watching Tiger on TV made me think that I could certainly do what he was doing. I just needed to watch closely and make sure that I was dressed head to toe in Nike. But it wasn’t his skill as a golfer that cemented Tiger’s place in my heart.

What cemented Tiger’s place in my heart was that at the top of his game, Tiger Woods decided to start over. Tiger, after winning several championships, decided to tear down and rebuild his swing. Yes, at the top of his game, Tiger Woods decided to rebuild everything about his game so he could be the best him. He didn’t let how good he was stop him from being as great as he could be. He put off his old self to become his best new self.

Friends, the best us only comes after we put the old us down. We have to take off old mindsets, old habits, and old ways to be the best us that we could be. When we really take on Christ, we have to put what we thought was the best us down, to have the new us. Too often, we are afraid that what we are giving up will not be as good as what we are getting. What  I can tell you is this, what you get is way better than what you give up, but that is a leap of faith. So take the leap and start over.

Be Blessed,
