The Daily Dose with Dr. Daryl L. Williams

A Word every day to get you on your way!

Here is the Daily Dose for Tuesday, September 8, 2020.

Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. 1 Corinthians 9:25

The Off-Season

Instagram has changed how I watch sports. Like everyone else, I have my favorite teams, but I can tell really early if my teams are going to compete for the championship, or if I am just watching for fun. It is not the first game of the season that lets me know how my team is going to do; it is actually the offseason from the season before. I follow the players and coaches of the teams that I like on social media, and I watch to see what they are doing during the offseason to have an idea of how they are going to do the next season.

Watching my teams during the offseason tells me what to look forward to in the next season. When I am watching the players and coaches on vacation, I can see if they are preparing for what’s to come.  When I see them working out on vacation, showing healthy meals, and practicing in their free time, I know it is going to be a good season. When I see them posting unhealthy food, not working out, and getting flabby, I know it is going to be a long season ahead for them and for me as a fan.

Friends, our success is based on what we do in the offseason. We may not be athletes, but the same principles apply to us, the offseason matters. To have the blessings of God, we have to be preparing ourselves even when there is no game to play. We need to be praying when there is no crisis so that in a crisis, we are already prepared. We have to read the Bible when we are not in worship so that the scriptures are in our hearts when challenges arise. When we discipline ourselves to do the work in the offseason, we are ready to win when the season starts.

Be Blessed,

Rev
