A Word every day to get you on your way!
Here is the Daily Dose for Friday, May 22, 2020.
Therefore, everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against the house; yet it did not fall, because it had it foundation on the rock. Matthew 7:24-25
One of the things on my bucket list is to travel the world and see the 10 oldest castles. Maybe I have watched too much Game of Thrones, but I really want to go tour old castles to see what they are like. The oldest known castle still standing is the Citadel of Aleppo in Aleppo, Syria. Constructed in 3000 BCE, the Citadel of Aleppo has lasted for over 5000 years and still stands today. The Citadel of Aleppo has survived storms, winds, wars, and all manner of disaster yet is still standing. Now, of course, the Citadel of Aleppo is not undamaged. It was greatly damaged during the Syrian Civil War, yet the foundation and many of the walls still stand today.
What fascinates me about old castles is the fact that they are still there. They have survived any number of things, but are still standing. When these structures were built, there were no computers, no heavy equipment, or any of the other modern things we use to build, yet the buildings are still there. But that is not what fascinates me the most about these structures. I want to see the land beneath them. I want to see what the composition of the earth that sits beneath these structures is like. You see, the buildings are well built, but the ground that they are standing on has had to hold those structures up for centuries.
Friends, what you build your life on matters. When you build your life on the word of God, it will weather the storm. The word of God is solid, so it does not erode or wash away. It does not shift with the tides or move when times are hard. It is strong enough to hold whatever you build on it. So as you continue to build your life, make sure you are building on something strong enough to hold you up both now and in the times to come.
