A Word every day to get you on your way!
Here is the Daily Dose for Thursday, March 19, 2020.
To the angel of the church at Philadelphia write: These are the words of him who is holy and true, who holds the key of David. What he opens no one can shut, and what he shuts no one can open. Revelation 3:7
My son is obsessed with doors. He has just gotten tall enough that he can really manipulate handles, doorknobs, and the locks on doors. This has meant that we have to be more and more diligent to make sure that he is not going in and out of places where he shouldn’t be but moreover to make sure that he does not lock us into or out of places by mistake. As much as my son loves all doors there is one type of door that holds his heart more than any other doors, automatic doors.
My son absolutely loves automatic doors. He likes being able to walk up to a door and just have it open to him or to just push a button and watch it open up. This was all well and good until one day we went to a secure building. In this building, there was a button for the automatic door and my son saw it, boldly walked up to it, and pressed the button but nothing happened. He was quite confused so he pressed it again. Seeing that the door didn’t open for him my son looked quizzically at me for an answer. So I picked him up and showed him the security guard and explained to him that he could press the button all he wanted to but until the guard released the door it was not going to open. So we waved at the guard, my son pressed the button, and it opened right up for him.
Friends, there are going to be doors in life that you can open, but there are going to be some doors that are not in your control. There are going to be some doors that you no matter how big, strong, educated, financially well off, or powerful you are, you simply will not be able to open them. You can push, pull or whatever else, but God controls that door. Only He can open it and only He can close it. For those doors, we have to trust that God knows best and he will do what is best in his due time. So when you get to a door that does not seem to be opening or closing simply say, God, let your will be done.
