Here is the Daily Dose for Tuesday, November 26, 2019.

In God, we have boasted continually, and we will give thanks to your name forever. Psalm 44:8

Bragging Rights

Things may have changed, but in my day there was a time-honored tradition of going for bragging rights among middle schoolers. It would start simple enough. One would say that they had just gotten something, maybe a new pair of sneakers. Then their rival would say, that’s nothing I just got a new pair of better sneakers. Not to be outdone another would then talk about the even better pair of sneakers that they had gotten, and on and on they would go for hours until someone had bragging rights.

Bragging rights allowed everyone to know that you were the best for that day. It gave you the chance to talk about all of your possessions and the things that you had that were better than everybody else’s’. What makes it fascinating looking back is that we were all bragging about stuff that wasn’t ours. It was stuff that our parents, aunts, uncles, and grandparents had purchased that we were taking credit for. So ultimately, we were not bragging about our stuff, but we were bragging about the stuff that was given to us by people who loved us.

Friends, we are all blessed. God has been more than generous to all of us. If we take a moment to look around and inventory our blessings we have a lot to brag about. But our bragging should not be on our own behalf, but on behalf of the one who created us, sustains us, and blesses us. In short, when we look around at all that we have been blessed with it should lead us to brag about our God. Our God is loving, faithful, kind, generous and takes care of us even when we don’t deserve it. So for everything that God has given you take some time out to say thank you to him, and tell someone how good he has been. But make sure that you give credit where credit is duebecause ultimately he’s the one with the bragging rights.

Be Blessed,

Rev
