The Daily Dose with Dr. Daryl L. Williams

A Word every day to get you on your way!

Here is the Daily Dose for Thursday, November 7, 2019.

Let each of you look not only to his own interests but also to the interests of others. Philippians 2:4

After You

It is always fun to watch two people arrive at a door at the same time. There is often a pause as they try to make the decision, who goes first. There are probably all types of etiquette rules behind this, but most times the people just look confused. Do I walk forward as a confident assertive person? Do I ask them to go first, or does that seem old fashioned? Do we just keep walking and pretend not to have seen each other as we crash into each other entering the door? Do I slow down or speed up so that we won’t get there at the same time an alleviate all of this confusion in one fell swoop? The answer can be found in these two words, “After You.”

We live in a world that tells us that we have to take care of ourselves, but for the believer, nothing could be further from the truth. As a follower of Christ, you have been adopted into God’s family, and as your father, he takes care of you. When you know that God is taking care of you it gives you the opportunity to extend kindness, grace, and love so that you can take care of other people. Believers should be the first to extend ourselves to others because we know we don’t have to be first. We know that as children of God, no matter if we are first second or last, we will be just fine because we know who is taking care of us.

Friends, as followers of Christ, our fate is assured because Christ put us before himself. He took on our sins, and our faults and died on a cross for our redemption. If we are going to follow his example it is up to us to put others first every day. It is up to us to not only look out for what we want and need but to also seek the interests of others as well. When we do that we not only show others the love of Christ but we also become more like him.

Be Blessed,

Rev
