A Word every day to get you on your way!
Here is the Daily Dose for Wednesday, October 30, 2019.
Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand. Colossians 3:1
“We want to be number 1 or number 2 in our industry, or we will get out of that business.” This was the famous mantra Jack Welch Jr., the former chairman and CEO of General electric. In the 20 years that Mr. Welsh led General Electric the value of the company increased by over 4,000%. This amazing run of success has made Jack Welch a legend in the business industry. Books have been written about Mr. Welch, he is paid thousands to give lectures on the success that he has had, and entire classes have been taught in business schools on “The Welch Way.” I can sum all of it up in one word, FOCUS.
There was no great mystery to what Mr. Welch did at General Electric, he simply focused the company on raised expectations. By looking to be number one or number two Mr. Weslch made the decision that he would put the energies of the company and its personnel in looking towards and reaching towards goals that were above them and then working hard to reach them. This meant that they could no longer focus on or put energy into things that may have been good but not the best use of their resources. They had to eliminate the lesser things so they could focus on the greatest things.
Friends, if we are truly going to follow Christ is it is going to require focus. We are going to have to set our sights on the things of God and stay focused on them. That means that there will be some things that you will have to let go of. There will be some things that you will have to walk away from. There will also be some things that you are going to have to put more into. Yes, it will mean a change in your life, but the result of that change will be that you will be closer to God. So make the decision to make the number one thing, the number one thing, focus on it, and watch what happens to your life.
