The Daily Dose with Dr. Daryl L. Williams

A Word every day to get you on your way!

Here is the Daily Dose for Monday, October 7, 2019.

For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires. Hebrews 4:12

It Works Both Ways

I remember the first time that I was injured while playing football. I had fallen and bumped my head was a little woozy. So I went to the trainer and she gave me an icepack to put on my head and relieve the pain and alleviate any swelling. Needless to say, it made me feel better and I was back on the field in no time. By contrast, later that week after several long workouts the entire team was encouraged to jump into the ice barrels to rejuvenate ourselves. When I jumped in that ice barrel I had never felt such pain in my life. It felt like I was being attacked by pins and needles and there was nothing more that I wanted in life than to get out of and away from that ice. But in the end, it did help with recovery and we were off to practice the next day.

As I looked back on those experiences I realized that the same ice that made my head feel better is the same ice that put me in excruciating pain. It was the same water, that had reached a temperature of thirty-two degrees Fahrenheit or less, comprised of two parts hydrogen and one part oxygen, yet it had two drastically different effects on my body. The same ice that was an agent of healing was also the same ice that was an agent of pain, but in both cases that same ice got me back up on my feet and back into the game. So while it was soothing in one instance and painful in the other, in the end, it was healing for my body.

The funny thing is the word of God can be the same way. The same word of God that may sometimes comfort you, may also reveal your sin and hurt your feelings. It is the same word, but sometimes it comforts, sometimes it corrects, sometimes it heals, sometimes it hurts, but it always makes you better in the end. So when you read the word of God expect that it will work both ways. It may make you feel better, it may make you feel worse, but it will always strengthen you and make you who God wants you to be.

Be Blessed,

Rev
