A Word every day to get you on your way!
Here is the Daily Dose for Thursday, October 3, 2019.
Like newborn babies, you must crave pure spiritual milk so that you will grow into a full experience of salvation. 1 Peter 2:2
In the 1980s there was a commercial campaign sponsored by American dairy farms called, “Milk, It does a body good.” The campaign was then followed by a second campaign called, “Got Milk.” Each of the campaigns was designed to get people to drink more milk and learn of the great health benefits that come from drinking milk. I thought the campaigns were absolutely brilliant because I am not a particular fan of milk, but knowing that milk would strengthen my teeth and bones got me to start drinking it again.
Considering the health benefits of milk you wouldn’t think that the dairy industry would need clever marketing to get people to drink milk, but that is not the case. The dairy industry started those campaigns because as people get older they simply drink less milk. When we are babies we love milk. We start off with milk as our only source of nourishment. Then it becomes our preferred drink with meals. Then over time, we move on from milk to water, soft drinks and other things leaving milk behind. This loss of milk also makes us lose the benefits that come with drinking milk, so the industry needed to remind us that milk does our bodies good.
In the same way, we have to remember that our spiritual bodies need milk as well. When we first become believers we are hungry for the word of God and the spiritual nourishment that comes with it. But like children growing up, often in our faith journies we move milk to a side dish and then sometimes forget about it altogether. When we do this we lose out on the spiritual building and equipping that can only come from the pure milk of the spirit. Without this pure milk, we can begin to feel run down and weak in our spiritual lives. So I want to encourage you today, to have some pure milk of the spirit. It will do your spiritual body good.
