Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For you are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. Psalm 23:4
In The Valley
Have you ever drifted into an unfamiliar neighborhood? It typically happens the same way. You are pretty sure that you knew where you were going but somewhere you made a wrong turn. You thought you were on the right path, but suddenly the landmarks that you were counting on were not there. Then you began to realize that you didn’t recognize the street names. The next thing you know you are in a place that you have never been to, don’t know anyone and can’t figure out how to get out there. Then you get scared and worried because the worst thoughts of what could happen begin to crowd your mind, and all you want is to get back to safety. Friends, that is what it is like to be in the valley of the shadow of death.
Nobody and I mean nobody, has ever gone to the valley of the shadow of death on purpose. The valley of the shadow of death is a place where we find ourselves when life has gotten off course, things have gone wrong, and we are not sure what to do. The valley of the shadow of death makes us believe that things that are scary are worse than they are, problems are permanent, and that things will only get worse from here. The problem is the valley of the shadow of death disorients us into believing that we are alone and should be afraid, but it is just not true.
Friends, when you find yourself in the valley of the shadow of death don’t panic, don’t worry, and most of all don’t be afraid. You are never alone in your valley. Even in the valley, God is with you. God is always there to comfort you, to watch over you and to protect you. When you are in the valley God is watching your back, covering your front and is armed for the occasion. He does not show up empty-handed he shows up ready for the fight. So remember, you will have valley times in your life. You will get lost and off course from time to time. Don’t panic, don’t be afraid, God is with you and even in the valley, He will take care of you.
