Because of the Lord’s great love, we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. Lamentations 3:22-23

How I Made It Over

If you are anything like me you have made some mistakes in life. Some mistakes are bigger than others but a mistake none the less. There were times when I was in situations that looking back, it is amazing that I made it out to the other side. There were other situations that were simply bad choices that weren’t dangerous or life-threatening but none the less needed divine intervention. While telling a friend about some of my past escapades he said something interesting to me. He told me, “Remember even a cat only has nine lives. Your luck just may run out one day.” His comment got me to thinking, what if indeed my luck was running out.

Honestly, I thought about it for a moment and then dismissed the thought when I realized that I wasn’t getting by on luck, I was getting by on God. What I realized is that there wasn’t some countdown until I had to be perfect or wind up in some level of trouble, rather I simply had a good God watching over me. I had a God who’s love never failed. I had a God who had unfailing compassion, even on folk who mess up like me. But most of all, I had a God who never ran out of love, or compassion because they were made new every morning.

Friends, we all mess up, intentionally and unintentionally, from time to time. And if we are honest, we mess up far more than we would like to. The good news is God is prepared for all of our mess-ups. God knows that every day we will have an opportunity to succeed, and many opportunities to make mistakes, that is why every day he renews his compassion and love for us to get us through the day ahead. No matter how many mistakes you’ve made in the past or the ones that you will inevitably make in the future, every day God is there loving, caring and protecting so that you will make it. So when you look back, know that it was not dumb luck or coincidence, it was the unfailing love of your god that helped you, and me, to make it over.
