The Daily Dose with Dr. Daryl L. Williams

A Word every day to get you on your way!

Here is the Daily Dose for Thursday, August 15, 2019.

Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him. Psalm 34:8

Try It

Have you ever gone to dinner with someone who has very particular eating restrictions? I don’t mean the normal vegetarian, vegan, pescatarian eating restrictions. I mean the people who have just decided that they don’t like particular things. The people who have to ask the waiter what all of the ingredients in a dish are because “they don’t eat that.” I am always fascinated by these people because as a person who is curious by nature, I always ask them why they don’t eat particular things. Sometimes it is for health reasons, sometimes it is religious issues, but my favorite is I just don’t like it. Those are the people that I always ask have you ever tried it. Interestingly their answer is typically no.

Like my finicky friends, many of us make up our minds about things before we have tried them. Simply based on how something looks, or the package it came in, or worse yet what someone else has said about it, we decide it simply is not for me. The only problem is by not trying you may be missing out on a world of possibilities. What if something you have never tried becomes your favorite thing ever? What if you try it and find out that what everyone said was wrong? Worse yet, what if you try it and find out that the people who warned you against it had never tried it for themselves either?

Friends, sometimes you just have to try stuff. Be it an exotic food, a different soft drink or even faith in God, you will never know if it is good until you try it yourself. So take a minute to try a portion of new food, or try a new drink, and if you never have take a minute to try God. You may wind up finding out that God is a good God and you’ve been missing out on his blessings because you simply never tried it.

Be Blessed,

Rev
