The Daily Dose with Dr. Daryl L. Williams

A Word every day to get you on your way!

Here is the Daily Dose for Monday, August 12, 2019.

One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and seek him in his temple. Psalm 27:4

One Thing

Every day I have a to-do list. The night before I sit down and list out the things that I need to do the next day. I order them from most important to the least important, so that I will not get distracted by small things when there are more important things that need to be done. There are some days that items from the list of the day before carry over from one day to the next because they didn’t get done the day before. Once my list is complete I have my directions for the day ahead and feel like I can be productive and make the day count.

Lists are useful because they in a world of choices, making a list of what is important can give focus to your life. A list allows you to focus your energies not on everything, but rather on the things that are most important. That focus allows us to filter out the things that don’t matter and focus on the things that do. The principle of keeping a list also works for our spiritual lives. There will always be things that will fight for your spiritual attention. There will be devotions,  books, conferences, and all manner of other things that want your spiritual energy, but there is simply only so much spiritual energy that you have to give. Since that is the case you have to start somewhere.

Friends, the most important thing that we can do with our spiritual energy is to find a way to spend some time with the Lord. David understood this, which is why he declares that the one thing he desires is to see the face of the Lord. David knew that if you spent time in the face of the Lord the rest of the to-do list would take care of itself. So find the time to get to the house of the Lord so that you can see him face to face.

Be Blessed,

Rev
