The Daily Dose with Dr. Daryl L. Williams

A Word every day to get you on your way!

Here is the Daily Dose for Wednesday, August 7, 2019.

My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Psalm 73:26

You Need Back Up

Have you ever made up your mind to do something? We have all done it from time to time. Perhaps we saw a documentary and decided then and there that we were going to give up smoking. Or we got a glance in the mirror at a bad angle and made the decision that we were becoming vegetarian right now. We made up our minds and decided that through sheer force of will we could bring this decision into reality. It typically works for a little while, but then something happens called temptation. No matter if it is going to a cookout and smelling the ribs or maybe hanging out with our old smoking buddies while not smoking, many of us fall back and we say, “the spirit was willing but the flesh is weak.”

Often times we make up our minds to do something and we think that is enough. We assume that through our own willpower and force that anything can be accomplished. Then we run into the real world and realize that we are not as strong as we think we are. You see when properly motivated, and in the perfect environment, and with the perfect surroundings we can do just about anything. The problem is the world we live in rarely provides perfect circumstances.  In the real world, the environment is rarely perfect, we don’t stay motivated, and the support we think we had sometimes turns into benign or even aggressive opposition. That is why there has to be more to us than just us.

Friends, your flesh will fail, your mind will get weak, and everything will not always be perfect, that is why we need the Lord. The Lord is our strength when we are weak, He is our portion when we run out and He is our will when we give up. No matter what you make your mind up to do, always do it with the Lord. When you do it with the Lord you have backup for when you give out and with back up like that you can always come out victorious on the other side.

Be Blessed,

Rev
