A Word every day to get you on your way!
Here is the Daily Dose for Monday, August 5, 2019.
23 Then he got into the boat and his disciples followed him. 24 Suddenly a furious storm came up on the lake so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. 25 The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!”
26 He replied, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm.
If you are ever on a plane with my cousin, make sure that there is no turbulence. You see, my cousin is a bit of a drama queen. She overreacts to everything. Once she saw a spot on her hand and she swore she had melanoma. Actually, she had a chocolate smudge from a candy bar she had eaten earlier that day. When she has a headache, she will convince you that she has a brain tumor that is pressing against her optic nerve. No matter what happens, she overreacts and believes that it is the end of the world. Which brings us to the plane.
Against my better judgment, my cousin and I were on a flight together. Somewhere about midway through the flight, we hit a rough spot of turbulence. Nothing out of the ordinary, just a little bumping and shaking. That is when my cousin yelled at the top of her lungs, “WE’RE ALL GONNA DIE!”Needless to say, her shriek alarmed a few of the passengers and got us the attention of a very nice flight attendant. Also, it is worth saying that we were not going to and did not die. She simply was overreacting, as usual, to something not going quite as planned.
Many times in life we act like my cousin. Something goes wrong and we overreact, freak out and declare the end of the world. This happens because we too often forget that Jesus is always with us. In the ups and the downs, the Lord is always right by our side. We don’t have to get scared and yell or scream, all we have to do is keep trusting God. We have to keep trusting that the Lord is not surprised by hickups, setbacks or turbulence. No matter what you are going through, don’t panic, God has this under control.
