A Word every day to get you on your way!
Here is the Daily Dose for Thursday, August 1, 2019.
The Lord appeared to us in the past, saying: I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness. Jeremiah 31:3
Being pulled over by the police can be a harrowing experience. You see the blue lights come on behind you and suddenly your heart begins to race. You first think are they coming for me or for someone else. Then you begin to think, what did I do? Was I speeding? Did I change lanes without signaling? What is this going to do to my insurance rates? All this happens as your heart is pounding through your chest and you hear the words, “License and registration please.”
The last time I was pulled over by the police this was my exact experience. The only problem was when I got pulled over I wasn’t driving. I was actually sitting in traffic in Washington, D.C. So while my mind went on this run of thoughts and emotions it occurred to me, I wasn’t even moving, so why was I being pulled over? Interestingly, I had purchased a new car and my temporary plates had expired. Living at the nexus of multiple municipalities comes with some interesting issues. I purchased the car in a state that issued 30-day temporary plates, the state I registered the car in, takes up to 90 days to issue plates, so they issue 90 day temporary plates. The municipality I was sitting in traffic in had a police officer that did not know this little idiosyncrasy about the surrounding jurisdictions. To make a long story short I was given a warning and sent on my way.
It was on that day that I learned that checking the expiration dates on things are important. Something may be in effect in on place yet simultaneously expired in another place. If you don’t know when and where things expire you can wind up thinking something is valid when it isn’t. The great thing about God is that his love never expires. God loves you so much that it does not matter which jurisdiction you are in, or how much time has passed, His love for you never expires.
