The Daily Dose with Dr. Daryl L. Williams

A Word every day to get you on your way!

Here is the Daily Dose for Tuesday, July 9, 2019.

But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. 1 Peter 2:9

On The Team

One of my favorite classes in elementary school was gym class. Don’t get me wrong, I loved my academic subjects, but that hour when we got to go to the gym was special. You could let your hair down, run free, and just have a great time burning off some energy for a little while before it was back to the books. My favorite thing in gym class was kickball. When we played kickball, we would split up the class into two teams, spread out and just have a great time. To pick the teams, we would all line up against the wall, and two captains would call out the names of people to be on their team. It was a great method for getting everyone onto a team and getting the game underway, or at least that’s what I thought.

One day, on the way to gym class I was talking to one of my friends and as I told him how excited I was to be on our way to gym class he told me he hated gym class. I was shocked. I wondered how anyone could hate gym class. Then he told me why he didn’t like gym class. He told me he is always one of the last ones picked. It bothered him to stand there an watch everyone else get picked before him while he just stood to wait. It made him feel like he was unwanted and not valuable because he was last. That day I was one of the team captains, so I picked him first because I wanted my friend to smile, and he did.

Friends, it is a horrible feeling to think that you are overlooked. When we feel like everyone is picked before us, it can make us think that we are less worthy and in some way don’t measure up to everyone else, but I have good news for you, God has already picked you. You don’t have to worry about what the world is doing because God has already picked you. Before the foundations of the world, God picked you. God picked you for who you are, not for what you can do. God picked you because He loves you and wants the best for you. He didn’t overlook you or find you wanting; He just picked you. So as you go through life, when you think people are being picked before you, always remind yourself that nobody else has to pick you for their team because you are already on God’s team. He picked you.

Be Blessed,

Rev
