The Daily Dose with Dr. Daryl L. Williams

A Word every day to get you on your way!

Here is the Daily Dose for Monday, July 8, 2019.

This is the day that the Lord has made; We will rejoice and be glad in it. Psalm 118:24

Happy Monday?

Like many people, I used to get the Monday blues. Actually, it would start on Sunday night. There would be this feeling of dread that would begin to creep over me at about 7 pm as I realized that the weekend was over and the work week was about to begin. So I would begin to get my clothes together and try to “get my mind right” for the week ahead. I’d start telling myself that it was going to be OK and that it was only five days, and that the next weekend would be great if I just got through the week. Then Monday morning I would fill up on caffeine, put on a fake smile and head into the week trying to survive until the next weekend. Then I realized, that’s simply no way to live.

I had blamed the Monday blues on everything in the world except what I should have blamed them on, me. You see, I thought that the Monday blues would go away when I didn’t have to go to school anymore. Then I thought the Monday blues would go away when I had a better job. Then I thought they’d go away if I had a different job. Finally, I realized that the Monday blues were only going to go away when I changed how I thought about Mondays. When I stopped thinking of Mondays as the ending of the weekend and started thinking of them as a gift from God, I started to have Happy Mondays.

Friends, your Mondays depend on how you look at them. If you look at them as the end of the weekend and the beginning of the work week then you will always have blue Mondays. By contrast, if you approach Monday, and every day, with a spirit of praise and thanksgiving, you will never be blue again. Every day that the Lord gives us is a day that we can choose to pout and complain or rejoice and be glad. When we choose to rejoice and be glad every day becomes an opportunity to see the goodness of God, to thank him for another chance and to celebrate life. So today, choose to have a Happy Monday because only you get to decide what kind of Monday it will be.

Be Blessed,

Rev
