So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. John 8:36
On July 4, 1776, a group of men located in North America declared themselves a free nation. In this declaration of independence, these men were formally informing the King of England that they were no longer his subjects but rather they were a free and sovereign nation that would rule itself in the way that they saw fit. It is that level of independence that we have all often wanted at some point in time. The independence to not be ruled or subject to anyone else but able to live as we see fit. The only problem is that many of us while declaring publicly our independence are privately still subject to all manner of things holding us hostage and controlling our lives.
While politically free many are still in bondage to many things. Some people are in bondage to low self-esteem. That low self-esteem stops them from living fully and pursuing the things that God has for them in life. Others are bound by habits that they can’t seem to break. Those habits often wreak havoc on their lives, their health, their finances and their families keeping them chained in a cycle of trying to break free and failing until they adjust their lives to accommodate their habits. Yet there are those who are bound by people. They are bound by relationships that keep them stuck where they are, keeping others comfortable but never being fully alive. Yes, my friends, you can be independent and in bondage in so many ways.
Friends, true freedom only comes from one place, a relationship with Jesus Christ. When you connect with Christ you can be truly set free. Christ will assure you of your value as a person, give you Holy Ghost power to break any habit, and be the friend that sticks closer than a brother assuring you that you will never be alone again. When you connect with Christ, you gain the power to be truly and fully free in ways that will allow nobody to put you in bondage again. Friends, today is the day to meet the Son and declare your true independence.
Happy Independence Day,
