No one can be established through wickedness, but the righteous cannot be uprooted. Proverbs 12:3
A Firm Foundation
Growing up in New York City I am accustomed to tall buildings. They are everywhere you look in the city. There are the 50 story office towers, 40 story apartment buildings, 20 story hospitals and the doesn’t even mention the famous buildings like One World Trade Center and the Empire State Building. When you are a child, and you see all of these magnificent structures there comes a time that you get curious about how they are built. So in high school, I did some research to find out how exactly one builds a tall building.
What I discovered was completely counter-intuitive. The taller the building you want to build the deeper the hole you have to dig first. You see, every tall building has a deep hole that the foundation was poured into. In that hole is metal, steel, cement and other things that provide the base for the building to rise from. The deeper the hole, the more you can put into the foundation. The more you put into the foundation, the taller the building you can build because it has something to stand on.
Interestingly, the same idea goes when you are looking at life. When you see someone who has a big and lasting life, I promise you there is a firm foundation. You see, to build a big lasting life you need a foundation for that life to stand on. You will need to dig a hole and put in some faith, some righteousness, some character and a whole lot of love. From there you can build a big life that will stand the test of time. If you build on anything else, it may stand for a while, but ultimately it won’t be able to hold the weight and will topple and fall. So take some time, dig your hole and fill it with the right things. Then you will be able to build a life that people will be able to see from miles around.
