Fire tests the purity of silver and gold, but a person is tested by being praised. Proverbs 27:21
When You Make It
It is surprising what is the downfall of people. We are taught how to hang in there, keep your head up, and grind it out. We are taught that hard work pays off and that winners never quit and quitters never win. We all have faith that we can make something out of nothing with some hard work and dedication. We are even taught that failure has a future and a mistake does not have to be the end of the world. We prepare ourselves and others over and over for the hard work of becoming a success and the gritty work of overcoming failure, but oddly enough there is one thing we rarely prepare people for, actually being a success.
The surprising things is the downfall of most people is not struggling to succeed, it is dealing with success. When many times when people have climbed to the pinnacle of the mountain, they look around and are not prepared for what they see. The see that they have everything that they every wanted. They see that they have everything that they worked for. Then they see that they are still there. The struggle for success got them there, but without the struggle they are left wondering how to fill the time, use the energy and what to devote the passion to that got them there, now that they are there. So many times people fall into self-destructive tendencies and gain toxic proclivities because they don’t know what to do now that they have made it to the top.
There are two real tests in life, getting there and living once you get there. You have to know who you are before you get there in order to be happy with yourself when you get there. You have to know who you are, what you believe and what your values are when nobody knows your name, so that you can hold on to them when everybody knows your name. It is my prayer that you make it. I pray that you work hard and achieve good success. Yet, it is also my prayer that on the way you ground yourself in the things of God, in who and what you believe so that when you make it and everyone is calling your name, you can still call on His name.
